Dancing on the Dock

A summer day in April was just what we needed while away with family at the cottage.  After going through tornado type winds on Thursday, rain and cloud cover Friday and Sundays bleak, sometimes wet day, Saturday was a perfect day.  It was a day spent outside, all day, enjoying the weather, the sounds of summer, the lake and little boys peeing behind the boathouse, okay maybe a couple big boys as well.
Outside by 11am, kids walking in the lake (with rubber boots on) by 11:15, sand toys out by 11:45, me in shorts by noon, cold beer opened by 12:01 and a soccer game happening shortly after.  With the adults sitting in the sun, enjoying what one hopes to be a sign of what's coming, the kids played in the lake, in the sand and wherever else they could get dirty.  We had a barbecue lunch by the lake, family photo's by the lake, and more importantly we had dancing on the dock.  My wife and I showed off our moves and the kids followed suit.  Needless to say, Dancing With The Stars will not be knocking on our door, and not because we are not famous.  Does anyone remember Elaine from Seinfeld and her dancing?  Well, she was good compared to us, but never did she laugh as much as we did and never did she have four kids having a great time right along side her.
Steak and potato dinner after the kids went to bed, that had my brother in law complimenting me on my barbecuing skills, even though it was his wife, my sister, that worked the barbecue.  He knew, she called him an ass, and we all laughed.  Dinner was awesome, the day was awesome, my kids are awesome and my wife is awesome.  I want more of these days, but more importantly I want to be sure to enjoy every moment of these days.  My dad playing mini sticks hockey with his Grand kids, my mom and sister shooting Nerf bullets at each other and laughing out loud.
I'm ready for warm weather, I'm ready for outside play, and more importantly, I remember the fun we just had this past weekend.  Thank you to my family for a memorable weekend.
